  Hello Everyone! I’m writing to announce the release of my next book! Hello Everyone! My friend, Mairyn, and I now host a virtual book club once a month where we read a book and have a relaxed and casual conversation about said book via FaceTime/Zoom. Our first month’s read was A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) by Sarah J. Maas.  To begin with, this review and my notes are only on the first book, not the series. I will delve deeper into the series as a whole once I get further into it! Now, I want to start off by saying that the book was pretty well written. I enjoyed the writing style and how descriptive it was. Maas gives a very clear and detailed image of what the characters and setting look like, and I appreciate that about the novel.   Hello Everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here, but I’m writing to share that I’ve started an Etsy store for my crocheted creations! As I’m sure some of you relate to this, the world is a stressful place (work, school, bills, etc), and I’ve taken to crocheting to help calm my nerves. This has been incredibly beneficial and I’ve found that my anxiety has gone down exponentially. Having a creative hobby has made me feel so much better and like I’m doing something productive with my time instead of just doomscrolling social media.  But because I crochet so much, I have so many creations!   Hello Everyone! Today I'm going to be reviewing the book Dragon Rider  by Cornelia Funke. A little history on this book is that it was originally published in German in 1997. Then there was a translation created in English, published in 2004 in the UK a nd the US. The publishing house was different based on where the book was published. Cornelia Funke is an author popular for this book and the Inkheart series, which is also very good. The book is about a boy who meets a dragon and some other magical creatures and go on an adventure to find a safe haven for dragons in the Himalayas. They meet tons of great characters along the way, all while racing to beat an evil dragon named Nettlebrand to the safe haven for dragons, as he wants to wipe out all the other dragons for his own cruel purposes. The characters cross the world in their travels, and travel across multiple different countries/geographic areas such as Europe and India.  The book is written for ages 9 to 12, midd...

It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here but I wanted to announce the release of my newest book, She Is !  Here is the description: “  This is a collection of short stories and poems that I have worked on over the years.      My first thought is that the whole premise for the games is so, so messed up.  My second thought is that Suzanne Collins has so artfully created this world and this nation of Panem that I have this sense of discomfort while reading it. That's how powerful her words are. She is graphic with the violence and the horrendous things that go on, and especially with Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen in the back of my mind, it's hard to remember that the competitors of the games are just children. But when I do remember, I'm hit hard, knowing that I am nearly eight years older than Katniss is when she enters the games. That is the most shocking part for me.   Hey Everyone! I just got some exciting news! My first book, Ophelians, is now available at the Whitby Public Library! My book has been accepted to the Durham Indie Collection, where the library showcases local authors and helps us celebrate our accomplishments.  I am so proud that I am able to be apart of this collection.   Hello! I wrote up some discussion questions for my novel, Ophelians , and I thought that they could be useful to teachers or readers who just want to do some more thinking about the book. I find discussion questions/writing prompts are useful because they allow you to think deeper and pull apart certain aspects of the book. As well discussing literature is one of the best parts about reading a good book! You can discuss these aloud in a group, or even write them out as a writing prompt.  I hope you find these useful!   For one of my classes in school I read Frankenstein  by Mary Shelley. This book was published in 1818, during the last bit of the Romantic Period. The history of Mary Shelley is very interesting surrounding the book, and I would suggest looking further into it, if you can. One thing I find particularly interesting is that the idea for this story came from a game where Shelley and her friends created stories to scare each other while away at a cabin.  This book is not what I thought it was. I always thought that the story followed the mad doctor, Frankenstein, and his journey to create the monster, and when the monster came to life, went on a brutal rampage in which Frankenstein has to heroically save the day. That is not what happens. Maybe in a movie. But not here.  The book is much better than I thought it would be. I liked that this book is complicated, and that the feelings are complicated and unsettling for the reader. You feel sympathetic for the Creature som...

  Hello! It's been a while, but I've been in school. Lots of reading, but not much time for reviewing. For one of my classes I had to read Milk and Honey  by Rupi Kaur. I read this book in high school when it was published, but I hadn't picked it up since.  I loved this book when I read it the first time. I thought it was so emotional and powerful. But I realize now, after reading it as an adult, some six or seven years later, that it is far more emotional and powerful than I originally thought.  The poems touch on a lot of different things, with most of the focus being on some aspect of a relationship or sex. Some of that can be hard to read, especially if you have had a traumatizing experience with either of those things. For me, I found some of the things she wrote hard to read, the words she uses hitting me particularly hard. It has been a long time since I've posted a review but it has been a crazy couple of months with some personal matters, but don't worry, I've still been reading to the best of my abilities.  Lately, I've been listening to audiobooks. I've been taking them out on the Libby app. They are free through your local library , which is very nice, because although I love books, they are a costly love to have.  On the Libby app, you use your library card number to create an account, and you can place holds and borrow ebooks and audiobooks. It is a great free resource, I would highly suggest checking it out.  The last audiobook I listened to on Libby was Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief.  I hadn't read this book since I was young. It was just as amazing as I remembered. I put a hold on the next book, too! I also use Apple Books for audiobooks sometimes.   Hello Everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve posted a review but I’m coming back with a strong one! I finally relented to TikTok’s constant badgering about The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo . I picked it up and didn’t put it down until it was finished. I finished the whole thing in one whole night. I really had no idea what this book was about when I bought it, I just picked it up and wanted to read it after seeing it be suggested so often. First off, I loved the type of old Hollywood story that the book focused around. The story follows Hollywood starlet of the 50’s-60’s, Evelyn Hugo, and all the struggles of her life rising to fame. It goes through how she was used for her body and how she used her body to get things from powerful men because they wouldn’t show her the same respect as they did other men, unfortunately.  The book goes through each of her husbands and the story associated with them, all while facing the struggles of not being able to be with the true love of...

  After ages of seeing this book online I finally decided to read The Song of Achilles ! It's the story of Achilles told by lifelong companion Patroclus, following his early years and into the Trojan War. Anyone familiar with Greek myth and story will know the basic story of Achilles but this takes it to an up close and personal level.  To begin with, this book is beautifully written. Madeline Miller does a fantastic job of being so descriptive that the reader can see the entire story clearly in their mind without being longwinded and boring. I am really a fan of how it is written, and that is one of the first things that comes to mind when I think of this book. The next thing is the romance and love between Patroclus and Achilles. The reader so easily will fall in love with Achilles and his passion. Everything he does is full of passion. He truly is the best of the Greeks and the way Patroclus sees him is in such a magical divine light, that you can't help but be taken with h...

  For this review I will be looking at The House on Mango Street  by Sandra Cisneros. This book is structured in short stories/chapters following the life young Esperanza leads while living on Mango Street. The book covers some hard topics but overall is gracefully written and a good read.  I liked the structure of this book. It was unique in the sense that each of the chapters was only one to four pages. They were almost like short stories. That made them very compact and Cisneros managed to get a lot of content across in such a small space. I read this book for school and one of the things we discussed was how she manages to write such serious things in small spaces and do it in a round about way, to cover the content from audiences aren't as mature as others. She does this so that this book has something for everyone. There is a lot one can gather as an adult reader, and a lot one can gather as a younger reader.  I liked the realness of the characters.   Finally, after all the hype I have seen online, I have read The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood. The story follows this young scientist who fake dates one of the meanest doctors on campus, and ends up falling for him. Classic romance novel, and so well done. At first I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book. It seemed very cliche and I was just feeling blah about it all. But then I started to get invested in the characters. I really liked Adam, and all his brooding moodiness. He was one of those characters that is bad to the world but good for his girl. I love that trope! This book was easy to read, nothing too dense or hard to get through. I liked that the characters were diverse and there wasn't a lot of sugarcoating in the writing. It showed some accurate aspects of post secondary life, what with the challenges of navigating dating, friendship and financial strain. This can be relatable for university or college students reading this book, which is definitely...

  When you want to be a writer, there are some tips that come up again and again. Anyone who is anyone as a writer knows that reading is one of the most important things you can do to build up your writing skills. I spent most of my life loving to read and I can say, in terms of both casual writing and academic writing, the extensive reading list I've got under my belt has benefitted me greatly. To begin with, reading is an excellent way to know what kind of style you like. Reading shows you what kind of books you like and what kind of writing style suits you best. Personally, I love the fantasy genre and all the books that come with it. I also love the way John Green writes. I also know that there are other ways that are just as good for writing and there are other genres that are just as interesting, but when it comes to my own writing, I love making my writing come across as conversational and the way a reader can fully immerse themselves into the fantasy world I have created.
